Matthew 20:20-28

The mother of Zebedee's sons, James and John, came to Jesus with her sons. She knelt before Him to ask a favor. “What is your request?” He asked. "Grant that one of my sons may sit on your right and the other on your left in your kingdom," she said. But Jesus replied, "You don't know what it is you are asking. Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?" He asked them. "Yes, we can," they answered. "Indeed you will drink from my cup," Jesus told them, "but who sits on my right or left is not mine to give. Those places belong to whom they have been prepared by my Father." When the other disciples heard about this, they were indignant with the two brothers. So Jesus called them together and said, “You know how rulers in the world are full of themselves and like to flaunt their power? With you it will be different. You want to be great? Help. You want to be first? Serve. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve others, and to give His life as a ransom for many.”
