Mark 1:14-28

After John was arrested, JESUS went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of GOD. "The time has come at last," he said. "The kingdom of GOD is at hand. Repent and believe in the good news." Passing along by the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the sea, for they were fishermen. JESUS called out to them, "Come. Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men." Immediately they left their nets, and followed him. Going on a little further from there, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and his brother John, in a boat mending their nets. Without delay, he called them also, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired hands, and followed him. They went into Capernaum, and as soon as it became the Sabbath, he entered the synagogue and began to teach. The people were astonished at his teaching, for unlike the scribes, he taught as one who had authority. All of a sudden, a man possessed by an evil spirit appeared in the synagogue and began shouting, "What do you want with us, JESUS of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are: you are the HOLY ONE of GOD!" JESUS rebuked him, saying, "Be quiet and come out of him!" The evil spirit sent the man into convulsions and cried out with a loud voice, but came out of him. The people were all so amazed that they began to ask among themselves, "What in the world is this? A new teaching, with authority no less, and he even gives orders to evil spirits - and they obey him!" As you can imagine, word about him spread like wildfire throughout Galilee and the surrounding area.
